GSEU and the European International Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Resource Management (ICE-SRM EU) were prominently represented at this year’s Raw Materials Week in Brussels.
Press release
The summary of the Raw Materials Week side event 'Unlocking Europe’s Mineral Raw Materials Potential: New Data, New Projects, New Opportunities', co-organised by EuroGeoSurveys (supported by GSEU) and the European Technology Platform for Sustainable Mineral Resources (ETP SMR), is now available.
The “Land Subsidence in Europe: From Science to Management” workshop concluded with great success, bringing together experts from research, industry, and policy to discuss one of Europe’s increasingly urgent geological hazards - a challenge not only inland, but also critically affecting Europe’s coastal areas.
GSEU had a strong presence at the International Professional Geology Conference (IPGC) in Zaragoza early in November, contributing to discussions on Europe’s geological future and the role of geoscience in the energy transition.
The GSEU team took part in the Global Energy Transition (GET) Conference 2025 in Rotterdam with a dedicated session on the Pan-European Atlas of Sustainable GeoEnergy Capacities. Held on 30 October, the session drew around 40 participants, mostly academic geoscientists, many of whom were learning about GSEU and the European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI) for the first time.
The final event of GSEU’s sister project EIS, funded by Horizon Europe, took place on 7 October 2025 in Brussels. Julie Hollis (EuroGeoSurveys) highlighted the essential role of European Geological Surveys and the GSEU project in supporting sustainable mineral exploration.
The European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI) already puts maps, datasets, and web services from across Europe at your fingertips. But we know it can get better - and that is where you come in.
EuroGeoSurveys & EGEC Geothermal were jointly awarded a dedicated hub at the Energy Fair of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) in Brussels, spotlighting geothermal energy and geological solutions for Europe’s Net-Zero future. As a flagship project of EuroGeoSurveys, GSEU was prominently featured.
EuroGeoSurveys presents the vision for establishing a permanent Geological Service for Europe as a vital platform to provide the scientific tools, data, and policy support needed to integrate geothermal energy into Europe’s broader clean energy strategy.
At the EAGE Annual 2025 in Toulouse, France, GSEU hosted a well-attended Lunch and Learn Panel Discussion on The European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI) – Europe’s Digital Twin.
We’re proud to announce the launch of the Pan-European Atlas of Sustainable GeoEnergy Capacities, an online tool that brings together decades of subsurface data and geological expertise from across Europe. This marks a major milestone in the GSEU project, as we move closer to our goal of transforming the consortium’s expertise into accessible, impactful tools.

A major new initiative to advance sustainable resource governance across Europe has officially launched: the European International Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Resource Management (ICE-SRM EU).
The European International Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Resource Management (ICE-SRM EU) has officially launched!
Ten years ago, the EuroGeoSurveys book Minerals in Your Life shed light on how minerals underpin our everyday lives - from smartphones to medicines. Today, as the world accelerates toward a green energy future, the upcoming second edition underscores Europe’s urgent need for sustainable and secure mineral sourcing.
The EuroGeoSurveys Ten-Year Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) 2025-2034 presents a forward-looking framework for the sustainable management of Europe’s geological resources.
The IRTC25: From Raw Material Policies to Practice conference took place from 19 to 21 February 2025 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Europe has set ambitious goals for Critical Raw Materials. Achieving them starts with understanding Europe's geology, long before investment decisions are made, permits are issued, or exploration begins. Better geological knowledge reduces uncertainty, strengthens decision-making, and reveals Eur...
