The final event of GSEU’s sister project EIS – Exploration Information System, funded by Horizon Europe, took place on 7 October 2025 in Brussels. The EIS team showcased innovative tools developed to advance mineral exploration in Europe — including an open-source toolkit and QGIS Plugin now freely available to the exploration community.
During the panel discussion Encouraging exploration across mining regions in Europe, Julie Hollis (EuroGeoSurveys) highlighted the essential role of European Geological Surveys and the GSEU project in supporting sustainable mineral exploration. She emphasised how GSEU delivers high-quality exploration data that supports research, innovation, and assessments of Europe’s mineral potential, contributing to informed investment and responsible resource development.
Key messages from the discussion:
- Open and reliable geological data are fundamental for advancing exploration.
- Strengthening engagement with stakeholders and communities remains vital to build a strong Social License to Operate (SLO).
- Increased EU funding and support are needed to foster innovation and early-stage exploration.
