New Position Paper: Europe’s Subsurface Is a Strategic Asset That Requires Coordinated Management

Europe's subsurface is under growing pressure as demands increase for renewable energy storage, critical raw materials, groundwater protection, geothermal energy, and CO₂ storage. In a new EuroGeoSurveys position paper, geological surveys across Europe call for integrated subsurface spatial planning to support Europe's long-term resilience, competitiveness, and strategic autonomy.
