A Geological Service for Europe – Position Paper

January 16, 2025

EuroGeoSurveys presents the vision for a Geological Service for Europe (GSEU), a pan-European initiative to harmonise and integrate subsurface data, knowledge, and expertise. By leveraging the strengths of National Geological Survey Organisations (NGSOs), GSEU aims to address critical challenges such as the clean energy transition, sustainable resource management, and geohazard mitigation.

The GSEU project lays the foundation for delivering state-of-the-art geological information and advisory services, ensuring robust support for European policies and sustainable development goals. With long-term funding and collaboration at the European level, GSEU will empower decision-makers, safeguard valuable subsurface resources, and enhance cross-border geoscientific capacity for a sustainable future.
