GSEU at Raw Materials Week 2023 in Brussels

November 20, 2023

As part of Raw Materials Week 2023, organised annually by the European Commission, GSEU experts actively participated in numerous meetings, sessions and conferences.

The GSEU project was presented at the 6th UN Framework Classification for Resources and UN Resource Management event, co-organised by UNECE Sustainable Energy, DG GROW, EuroGeoSurveys, GSEU - Geological Service for Europe and FutuRaM projects, both of which are funded under the Horizon Europe programme. Julie Hollis gave an introduction to the Geological Service for Europe, while Guillaume Bertrand presented the baseline assessment and SWOT analysis prepared by the GSEU/UNFC team, and Meta Dobnikar presented the first activities of the European Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Resource Management (EU ICE-SRM), which is currently being set up. The first phase focuses on the preparation and implementation of training courses for national experts working in geological surveys which are to be held in the first half of 2024.

These activities are intended to support the implementation of the European Critical Raw Materials Act, in particular with regard to reporting using the UNFC classification. More than ever, it is a crucial tool to achieve the objectives of the CRM Act and to address the challenges of CRM supply for the European industry.
